Sompt is situated in the Deux-Sevres department, which is part of the Poitou Charentes region in the west of France. According to a couple of websites I have found, the population is currently 289 although I couldn't find out how old or accurate this data is.

Sompt itself is a sleepy hamlet, which is absolutely ideal for getting away from the hustle and bustle of busy English life, but with the amenities of shops, restaurants and the all important bars nothing more than a 7 minute drive away in Chef Boutonne.
There is a bus stop in the village with routes to Chef Boutonne, although es expected the local bus service is pretty limited - a car is a must in France.
